Lonely Smiles

With every single dream I have there always comes the clue
What’s a picture of me without a picture of you
If I never get to tell you straight
You must believe it’s true
That while I’m lonely I still smile a lot

Distance makes the heart grow fonder so they say
But it’s said in hidden yearning
But I aint seeing things that way
Whilst I cherish our time together
I’m just looking for the day
While I’m lonely I still smile a lot

I know you’re somewhere out there trying to make it in your own way
I send you every single blessing that my heart could ever say
Then I’ll wear it on my sleeve so you’re never far away
And when I’m lonely I’ll still smile a lot

Life’s an open road, there’s many things I’ve left behind
Many forks I could’ve taken
Different ways to share my time
But I wouldn’t change a thing
So you take yours
I’ll take mine
And may you always find a smile a lot

I know you’re somewhere out there trying to make it in your own way
I send you every single blessing that my heart could ever say
Then I’ll wear it on my sleeve so you’re never far away
And when I’m lone;y I’ll still smile a lot

Down to Earth again

Since the oceans receded man has aimed for more than he needed
Till a hand came down, brought our feet back down to earth
In pairs they went a’rollin without no fear of fallin
Until that hand came down

Faster and higher they went than man was intended to get
Until a hand came down, brought our feet back down to earth
They got so close to the heavens that the gods just couldn’t let ‘em
So a hand came down

And scattered the halves so far apart that no one had a chance on earth of love to find
And thus were filled with a longing for those arms where they belonged
After that hand came down to end their rolling

Now at first they were all stunned that their love had come undone
After a hand came down, brought our feet back down to earth
They learned to walk and most forgot what they’d lost and just carried on
After that hand came down

And they thought they lived well, but in their hearts could they tell that half was missing from a time gone by
And without that sense of a longing they lost all goodness and wronging
And crashed their hands deep down into the Earth

But that longing still lived on in those poor romantic souls
Who’d search forever in their hearts for the chance to be whole
Crying out like a song for a bond of such power they’ll know it in the moment they find
Those arms they belong in and fall back into rolling never coming back down to the earth again

In the Beginning

I changed my plans, I dropped my hold, I missed my beat
I failed your tears, shook your peace and missed my sleep
I’m glad you’re here
So wash your face, but let your feet keep their dirt my darling
There’s no ground on this Earth you could walk I won’t follow
I’m glad your here

Let’s take this fight back to the world, just like we did
Before everything got turned around
Unfold to fly
Rest your head and fly with me
And we’ll look down upon this world as it was in the beginning

I told you twice a tale awry from different seas
A standing coin that won’t fall down
Your woe is me
I’m glad you’re here

Half in quiet
We fill our glass with what we see my darling
There’s no tear you cry that I won’t feel
I’m glad you’re here

Let’s take this fight back to the world, just like we did
Before everything got turned around
Unfold to fly
If you cry, then cry with me
And we’ll look down upon this world as it was in the beginning

Paper

 Well I’m a fool if I moan
I’m a wreck if I weep
I’m a step if I fall
Just a sucker to reach
I’m alone if I lie
Just a fuck if I preach
I’ll be nothing at all
Till you’re back here with me

It’s a farse if I mourn
Or still stand on my feet
I’d be heartless at best
Just a waste if I dream
I’m a colourless tone
I’m a shade for no heat
I’ll be nothing at all
Till you’re back here with me

Straight fold, crumpled up in the pages
Ruled line, a crooked tear down the paper

I’m a comical  bore
I’m a flame with no teeth
I’m a weary old man
Not sure which way to lean
I’m a wicked respite
From that final frontier
I’ll be nothing at all
Till you’re back here with me

Straight fold, crumpled up in the pages
Ruled line, a crooked tear down the paper
Straight fold, crumpled up in the pages..

Losin my way

My heart’s been burning to share what I’ve been learning
But I can’t find nothing to say
My life has been running over these hills
Burning my candle at both ends in vain
But I don’t know how I’m supposed to find
What I see clear in my heart but not mind
Still I’ve never felt better since I somehow started losin my way

My lover, she tells me that I’m losing my friends see
By being true to what I thought was my aim
So while I’m making things happen
Just a’strumming and tapping
I can’t help thinking someone’s cursing my name
But I don’t know how I’m supposed to pay
My dues if I’m just wasting my days
Still I aint never felt better since I somehoow started losing my way

But there’ll come those times when I’m not strong enough
There’ll come those times when I’m just fake
But then there’s times when I’m just wierd enough
To paint a new horizon every day

When I find a hidden smile
It somehow seems all worthwhile
And for a minute life be more up than down

i won’t be fooled to thinking who I should be
Don’t want control over all that happens to me
For who knows what I’d be missing if I somehow found it all my own way
Who knows what I’d be missing if I somehow found it all my own way

Over, Under and Around

With both our eyes to the ground, we’re walking
We keep all that hurts under heel
We’ve come just far enough to know
There’s somewhere we’re heading that none could conceal
Oh but it’s a fine night to just let our glasses fill

With both our hearts on a wheel, they’re turning
So shyly from darkness to light
We both let ourselves be lead to the garden
But ignored every star in the night
Somewhere across the town our flower had already bloomed in delight

I’ve spent all my time, just not quite completing things
Over and under and round
And I’ve spent all my pennies, not quite feeling things
Over and under and round
But through it all I found . . .

We shared ten years in a song together
And paint now as if they were ours
With truth, torn jeans and just a little anger at something
Oh it’s power, and how sweet be that sound
But it’s a fine night to just lay our glasses down

I’ve spent all my time, just not quite completing things
Over and under and round
And I’ve spent all my pennies, not quite feeling things
Over and under and round

But through it all I won’t let go, as the lonely drummer sings
I won’t let go as the midnight bells are ringing
I won’t let go as we both start baring skin
I won’t let go as we’ve finally made it here

But it’s a fine night to just let our glasses fill

I’ve spent all my time, just not quite completing things
Over and under and round
And I’ve spent all my pennies, not quite feeling things
Over and under and round
But through it all I found you…

Petals

 Held I a rose… it died
The petals they fell in the fading light
Now I’ve a rose thorn for you
Wrote I a soulful line
Mournful it sounds, though I mean to smile
Now I’ve a tear cried for you

Could’ve been fate love… I could’ve been fooled
My heart was all for you
But my journey it ends as the roses bloom
And I fall in air too

Heard have I a thousand times
A song as a window that gazed for miles
Now if I could play these songs for you

Could’ve been fate love… I could’ve been fooled
My heart was all for you
But my journey it ends as the roses bloom
And I fall in air too

The Sermon

(another day will come)

 Walk along toward another day
Another day will come
Forced along down another way
Another day will come
Blessed are the ones still meek in love
Their guests shall we become
Fall alone, down the lonely way
Another day will come

Torn down, buried and revered inside like countless Jerusalem shrines
Every path to home the gods have laid becomes twisted in each mans mind
But to say it’s all been said before is to say all that could be is done
Forced along down another way
Another day will come

Don’t you hide the light of the candle
It’s who you are, though undefined in will
Blessed be the son to some
And the moment to others
And to force anothers will will bring you nothing

Your Reflection

(for Eli & OLi)

May you see in your reflection a pillow for your head
And a bed on which to lay it down
May it show you through the window as the sun does fall
A star to guide you

May it always show a peace for things beyond what you control
And the strength to always love just where you are
As you both close your eyes and the darkness falls
A dream will take you

Though you’ll learn that your reflection’s never quite like you
But what it shares will be your guide
And though there’ll be times you try to fight it
Know that when it’s there you’re not alone

For in the darkness it’s a light to guide you home again
In the quiet it’s a song to lead you home again
When you’re weary it’s a dream to fly you home again
And you, you’re it’s reflection too

May you see in your reflection a sparkle in your eye
And a smile for all the joys that yet may come
Each day a dawning wonder as the years revolve
And weave around you

Though you’ll learn that your reflection’s never quite like you
But what it shares will be your guide
And though there’ll be times you try to fight it
Know that when it’s there you’re not alone

For in the darkness it’s a light to guide you home again
In the quiet it’s a song to lead you home again
When you’re weary it’s a dream to fly you home again
And you, you’re it’s reflection too

And with your family around
Who with every waking breath
Are singing songs of your name to the wind
So you’ll never forget
All the love you have around
Both near and afar

And whenever you feel you’ve lost your direction
Remember to breath and hold your reflection in loving arms
In loving arms
Both you and your brother

War in a small town

They say there’s going to be war now
As the roses bloom the sweetest for the year
They’re preparing all the town for the razing
As they once adorned the streets for seasons cheer

Now the men, they quickly learnt how to hurt things
With the same hands that built of white stone
And the women, they’re digging holes for the their tears wells
As they once had planted seeds to be sewn

For they say, there’s going to be war now
As the roses bloom the sweetest for the year
They’re preparing all the town for the razing
As they once adorned the streets for seasons cheer

Now a boy runs screaming “They’re coming!”
As he once complained of wolves among his sheep
And the ravens are circling high, in waiting
Where yesterday had flown the dove of peace

Yeah they say, there’s going to be war now
And I fear that life may never again be still
They prepare in all the town for surviving
And they pray to love that somehow, they will

Lost for Gawking Blues

Been lost for gawkin, now I crave a little contact
Been lost for gawkin, now I crave a little contact
Was waiting in the wings while my life just slipped on out the back

Been the perfect pauper, now I’m working for a quick stack
Been the perfect pauper, now I’m working for a quick stack
But why go and earn a cent when I’ve got to give a dollar back

It’s getting on for getting over me
I’d have to say I liked it better
The scent is cold that was heading back to me
I’ll let you know I liked it better long before the day
I became aware of it

I’d count my blessings but I’m skipping to the next track
I’d count my blessings but I’m skipping to the next track
Grasping at straws that I know I’m never gonna catch
To hell or heaven and I know I’m never coming back

It’s getting on for getting over me
I’d have to say I liked it better
The scent is cold that was heading back to me
I’ll let you know I liked it better long before the day
I became aware of it

Latisha’s lullaby

I stopped my song for the littlest child
Who came to me while I played
With her own small hands
Her own sweet song she played

And all my life went flickering by
With all up to this day
If I were child again
Would all this be the same?

High up the moon shares its fairest glow
Over the moon may your dreaming go

How we must seem to those innocent eyes
We who fail in age
Though the fools we be
Her wonder’s left unchanged

So a journey smooth I wish thee child
As steeper grow the ways
May that heart and song
Be never led astray

High up the moon shares its fairest glow
Over the moon may your dreaming go

High up the moon shares its fairest glow
Your wonder outways all that we may know
So over the moon may your dreaming go

Burn the Telegraph

You’ve littered every trait a man should learn from his father
Trouble is that you’ll get your way
You’ve spat on every way a man should deal with another
Rolling heads and then turning graves

You should be chilled to the bone

I’d talk to you of bad karma coming soon but I’d rather
Take it into my hands to shake
All the heads buried so deep in the pie you shit in and feed us
Kissing ass is now all they taste

But there’s so much to learn without you to decide
Whatever’s on your mind, just keep it out of my garden
I will face you anywhere outside
Just keep away from my garden

The fight is all dead and gone from too many sisters and brothers
Cowarding here in your nanny state
But there’s something greater than gold in the pot at the end of this rainbow
A potion that mind’s awake

To discern it with love, and let it rule from inside
Whatever’s on your mind, just keep it out of my garden
I will face you anywhere outside
Just keep away from my garden

Today you claim control of it
Tomorrow’ll be the end of it
Burn away

Affairs are but a distraction
Breeding of fears in a caption
Burn away

None of us seeking no trouble
Busting up of these bubbles
Burn away

Smoke will come from your paper
Tomorrow’ll be no word of it
Burn away

Back to a simple life
Just a simple life
Always unattainable, but no matter, we try

For a simple life
Just a simple life
Reminded of all that we’ve lost in trying

Let’s all act . . .

For a simple life
Just a simple life
All for their part with their roles to find

In this simple life
Just a simple life
Just a vanishing dreaming before our eyes

The time is coming to deal with the ever steeper decline into madness of this puppet race
I’ve never been one to debate what is to each one that should matter
But it’s time we put a few things to stake

For there’s so much to learn without fear to decide
Whatever’s on your mind, just keep it out of my garden
I will face you anywhere outside
Just keep away from my garden

Under Every Divide

I’ve had a feeling that it’s time to move on
Cause nothing’s gonna grow in this soil any longer
Leave to the birds what don’t cover my bones
Cause nothing’s gonna grow in this any longer
Wonder’s a train I for some reason stepped off
Now nothing’s gonna grow in this soil any longer
The water’s dirty and my tears are lost
Nothing’s gonna grow in this soil any longer

Nothing’s gonna grow till we lay something down
It’s the same ol’ ground under every divide
You want a war? Want a fight?
Take a look at yourself and remember your mind

This land is wild in each heart that’s born
Nothing’s gonna grow in this soil any longer
We’re taught to be what we were never meant for
Now nothing’s gonna grow in this soil any longer
We fight for lines we can tow till torn
Nothing’s gonna grow in this soil any longer
Here’s to the fallen who just couldn’t go on
Nothing’s gonna grow in this soil any longer

Who said to make it at any cost?
Nothing’s gonna grow in this soil any longer
I’ve never hated, but I’ve been where it’s from
Nothing’s gonna grow in this soil any longer
Just one pill and all this fear would be gone
But nothing’s gonna grow in that soil any longer
It’s not the trick, but the heart that’s gone
Nothing’s gonna grow in this soil any longer

I missed the question we’re all answering for
Nothing’s gonna grow in this soil any longer
How many years just getting along?
Nothing’s gonna grow in this soil any longer
“Working Class Hero” just never caught on
Nothing’s gonna grow in this soil any longer
But we’ve sung those visions in so many songs
Nothing’s gonna grow in this soil any longer

Remember your mind

Requiem of the Morning

I’m too patiently waiting
For what I’m sure’ll be that sign
For the road much less traveled
Both worn and divine
But distracted I wander
With no will to decide
Hearing something call me
Never turning in time

So I vow to journey come morning
To seek what it is I should find
But I’ve vowed every night, now for half of my life
And broken each one, as if nothing
The moment I rise..

Fearless and hazed
Timid and bright
Wishful in dreaming
But hopeless in plight
I’ve sworn on my family
And I’ve sworn on my life
To give all I’m worthy to give
When it comes to the time

So I planned a new journey for morning
I’ll travel in love and in light
But I’ve planned every night now for most of my life
And ignored every one, as if nothing
That moment I rise
Deep down still awaiting that sign

I found every hope under cover of night
Just to wish it away in the morning
Fantasies under the stars
To just towing some line in the light
The moon led me home
And I anchored in sight
Then just turned and set sail in the morning
Stubborn and crazed for perfection
Though I’m messing it up every time
But I’ll linger no more
If I fall
I’ll be waiting in hell for that sign

I promise I’m leaving, with the coming of light
That road lies in waiting
For me unto find
